We are dedicated to helping home and business owners transform outdoor spaces into landscapes that support aesthetic, ecological, economic, and social goals. We specialize in installing gardens that feature local and regional native plant species, including flowers, grasses, sedges, shrubs, and trees. These gardens directly support declining populations of pollinators, by providing habitat for monarch butterflies, native bees, honeybees, and a host of other pollinator species that are exhibiting major population decline. We’ve been creating pollinator habitat, one yard at a time, since 2015 and look forward to working with you to do the same.

I am a ceramic artist who primarily uses mid-fire stoneware to create comfortable and beautiful pottery for everyday use. Clay is a medium that I keep returning to because I love that the pieces get to live full lives after they leave my hands. I add in little functional details where I can and develop my own glazes to make the experience extra special. I also enjoy experimenting with bold designs and subtle textures on top of clean and light forms.

This year, I celebrate 50 years of photographing Lake Superior with my new book, SUPERIOR: A 50-Year Photographic Journey. Over decades of projects, the lake has been a constant companion—sometimes quiet, sometimes wild—but always inspiring. This book gathers my finest landscapes from past work alongside new images created especially for this collection, capturing the lake and its remote islands in ways both familiar and unexpected.

For 35 years, I worked with a tripod-mounted 4×5-inch view camera, savoring the slow, deliberate process of making each image. Digital photography opened new possibilities—especially from a kayak—and more recently, drone cameras have expanded my view to heights and angles I never imagined. Advances in editing and printing now let me revisit older photographs, restoring their original vibrance, like lifting a dull varnish from an old painting. Lake Superior touches each of us differently. Its moods, its light, its vastness—they stir feelings that words often fail to capture. I hope my photographs become “toys for the imagination.” Like a poem, each image offers a literal scene that may spark memory or adventure, but also a metaphorical suggestion that each viewer interprets in their own way.

Whatever draws you to the lake—the calm, the storm, the silence, the rhythms—I hope these images carry a piece of that experience. Please enjoy a selection of prints from the book and pick up a signed copy. With the holidays approaching, I’m happy to personalize books as gifts for friends and family, sharing a touch of the lake with those you love. If you can’t make it in person, please view the new work at Blacklockgallery.com
