Shoreview Natives, Host Farm

We are dedicated to helping home and business owners transform outdoor spaces into landscapes that support aesthetic, ecological, economic, and social goals. We specialize in installing gardens that feature local and regional native plant species, including flowers, grasses, sedges, shrubs, and trees. These gardens directly support declining populations of pollinators, by providing habitat for monarch butterflies, native bees, honeybees, and a host of other pollinator species that are exhibiting major population decline. We’ve been creating pollinator habitat, one yard at a time, since 2015 and look forward to working with you to do the same.

My work in ceramics combines functionality and creativity on a mid-temp stoneware clay. I’m drawn to silly figurative sculptures, high contrast illustrative work, clean functional forms, and every possible combination of the three. I’m constantly playing with both forms and glazes to keep the work interesting and fresh. A main focus of this past year has been learning how to develop my own glazes which has quickly become a fascination of mine. It has opened the door to endless experiments into color and glaze effects, while always balancing durability and fit on my clay. My goal is to have some new interesting glazes by fall as well as ones that allow me to incorporate more detailed and whimsical illustrations back into my work. Pottery is uniquely situated as an art that is made to be used– this is what I love most about it. It is my goal that my pieces bring a little extra joy to whoever is kind enough to use them.

I absolutely love working with sensuous surfaces, rich colors, and flowing shapes that create a special connection with the audience, both visually and physically. There’s something so captivating about the tactile nature of clay, and it plays a huge role in my art. Using clay allows me to explore the perfect balance and depth through textures that beautifully link our human experiences to nature, memory, culture, history, and ideas. I handcraft my durable pots in my cozy studio in Duluth, Minnesota, and they’re made to be used every day. Everything I create is food-safe, lead-free, and safe for the microwave and dishwasher— perfect for everyday life! Alongside my work as a studio potter, I’ve been fortunate to share my passion for ceramics by teaching at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, since 2008. Working with Shoreview Natives is such a joy, as it gives me the chance to play around with new surface designs while helping to raise awareness about the vital role pollinators play in our ecosystem and how we can all adopt more sustainable practices in our daily lives.
